Fig Tree problems

I'm trying to grow a fig tree for the first time. Its in a pot and was doing okay but just recently its leaves have started yellowing and falling off. Is this normal, do they lose their leaves every year or am I doing something wrong?

Any advice gratefully received.

Figs loose their leaves in autumn don't worry.

We have a fig doing the same, this was its second year, no sign of fruit. Do you know how long they take to fruit?

Also should we take it out in the spring and sort out the roots etc and give it new compost, or just leave it? I remember someone telling us that we should just leave it where it is.

My Dad has two Brown Turkey Figs. They are in large pots, but sunk into the ground. They lose their leaves every Autumn, but are in a sheltered position, so haven't started dropping them yet. I believe some Figs may not fruit for four to five years. Good luck.

My Brown Turkey is in a raised bed and is 10 years old, as far as I can remember it had a few fruits in the 3rd year, this year I have lost count maybe 60+

I would recommend keeping it in the pot to restrict the roots unless you have the space.

I don't feed mine and give it a good prune in the winter.

Hi,

My Fig Tree is doing the same. This is its first year, I have fruit but the leaves are all going yellow and dropping. Should I pick the fruit of just leave them to grow, they look a little small at the moment.

My raspberries are also losing their leaves now. And my Goji Berries.

Is this all normal?

i planted 2 brown turkey fig trees this year (feb) and they have a good few fruits on them already. apparently they will overwinter and become next years fruit so dont pick them off and pop them somewhere sheltered if poss. if not, use horti fleece over winter and they should come good in the spring.

oh and agree about the leaves - normal wintering procedure

Oh do I need to put it in the greenhouse? Should I wrap in bubble wrap?

You don't need to bring them in, but I like to increase my chances of a second crop, plus I have a few varieties I want to keep safe as they were hard to find in the first place

Lots of small figs just showing on my plants now. Must dig out some blood, fish and bone for them.
