I too hae got a lot of hazel nuts from a tree in our back lane.
Waiting to see what suggestions you come up with for using them up.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

        I'm going to crush them
        *and eat them

Still have the shoe box full from the last year-never ate them.I was going to use them to cover C*******s rum truffles

There was loooooads of rosehips beside the road-was wondering if all rosehips are edible?Haven't got a picture but they were longish ones-I think they have pale pink flowers(definitely not rosa rugosa)

I gather about 4 massive mixing bowls full of hazelnuts from our tree each year

I was surprised how many peeps here are very happy to tuck into them with a nutcracker with their pre meal drinkies.
I half fill a couple of litre Le Parfait jars with shelled nuts and top up with Calvados and leave for 6 months.
          ....makes a lovely nutty liquour.

I also sprinkle nuts onto puddings or press into splodges of chocolate along with dried fruit

Yes: (rose petals too). The long ones are rosa canina, most likely

You can make some of these cakeys for me
Or a nut loaf, which is really nice sliced into sandwiches

I made some wine from rosehips once,it was sickly and unpleasant, wouldn't recommend it.

what are they weighing in at??

I spent 2 hrs on my hands and knees picking mine yesterday- mine don't have the outer casing on them

must weigh mine too- tis certainly less than last year ( thank goodness!)

The 1st box was 1.5 kg(roughly)without casings. That was 1 bag.On the second day I found a tree loaded with nuts-they started to turn brown but were stiil in the casings-it's handy to pick them straight from the tree-grass underneath is a bit longish.I had 2 bags on the second day so I suppose I have between 4-5 kg.The weight will go down as they are drying off.
