  • Chicken Poo - planting in?

I've a load of chicken poo pellets - are these suitable for digging into the planting hole for apple, pear, cherry and plum trees?

    Thanks

As long as they're well mixed in with the soil at the recommended rate I don't see why not.

Thanks. I used it for my All Gold Rasps - and I've had ~1lb from each cane in their first year, so hoping that it'll give the fruit trees a kick start too!

I think that manures are too rich for putting into planting holes - you risk making the soil very acid and burning young roots as they try to grow.
Additionally, the roots won't want to venture into the relatively poorer soil around the planting hole, which will slow establishment. Make the roots go find their nutrients - don't take the nutrients to the roots or the roots won't bother to grow.

I suggest only a light sprinkling of powerful fertiliser on the surface, late in winter, just as the trees wake from dormancy.

I marinade my turkey poo for 6 months and then mix with compost before using.

The smell of ammonia from it when raw suggests if used it will burn roots.

Yeah, my fresh (chicken) poo goes in the daleks, but I some how have a large tub of chicken poo pellets. Not sure when/if I bought it, but found it in the garage
