I am growing a kiwi this year, bought from Woolworths. Variety is Jenny which is self fertile. Instructions say it needs a sunny sheltered spot with good drainage and fertile soil.
My sister's in Fareham, just a bit further south than you, and she has a rampant kiwi - sprawls over the shed - not sure how much fruit she gets of it though.
Hi I have grown Kiwi fruit Jenny here in Aylesbury in my greenhouse, third year on I had fruit but roots got waterlogged and it killed it off you must have plenty of drainage
Myfamily is from te puke on the north island and I've found the weather to be very similar so you should be fine. Its better to have a male and a female plant though they tend to have better crops self fertile ones have a thing for lots of leaves.
