Quince jelly

Hi All

I think I have found a Quince tree near where I live. There is alot of fruit laying on the ground. They look like small greenie yellowie pears - does that sound right, yery hard but smell fruity?

I hope this not a loooikmas like fruite which is poisonous

Does anyone have a recipe for Quince Jelly which I understand is very good?

Mix them with a few crab or cooking apples and make as for apple jelly. The jelly has a lovely perfume when you open the jar.

They sound just like quinces, plus it's the right time of year for them to be falling so I think you'll be safe!
Made quince jelly a few weeks ago but didn't really follow a receipe...just simmered fruit with quite a bit of water for a good few hours, strained overnight then added sugar to taste and boiled. I also added lemon and orange zest and some chopped chillis. Very nice too!

There's a pic of the Quince I used on this blog entry, and the recipe for the Jam/Jelly I made. The quince I used were quite small, and very hard work to peel and core, I hope yours are the bigger variety...

If you're making jelly you don't need to peel and core, just chop and simmer till soft.

Hi and thanks to everyone who came back to me with help and advice.

Got everything ready to start the quince jelly yesterday. Started cutting them up and every single one of them was bad in the middle. I am very disappointed and will have to wait till next year to have a go. I think it must be too late in the season for them now.
