new apples

i have some crab apple trees that i grew from seed i brought with us when we moved,they dont seem to grow over 4ft,so,could i graft some of my egremont russet branches onto them?would like to try it,but would it be viable?.i have grafted bonsai (maples) but never fruit trees,so if anyone knows,i would love to hear.....thanks
