  • Buy apple trees Barnsley/Northeast

    Hi there,
I want to buy some bare root apple and other fruit trees for a friend in Barnsley, from somewhere that will deliver/does mail order.
The places I've found so far like Blackmoor and Keepers are down south, does anyone know of a good place up north?
    Thanks

Link here > R.V.Roger < (North Yorkshire) are above average.

Are you wanting to buy from "up North" to keep your business in the local area, or do you plan to collect the trees in person (subject to prior negotiation)?

Thanks for the info. The reason is keep things local, seems mad to have trees driven all the way from the south coast when they're available locally

Also they should be on a suitable rootstock for your area !

            Hi Katherine F.
I've found these links for you to try. I don't know if they deliver but you can always give them a ring. There not far from the town centre so there local.

Do be careful with a general nursery as they often just buy in trees and they may not be local cultivars or ones chosen for local conditions. Sadly no nursery in Leicestershire does Leicestershire cultivars !

I have to agree with Mell though be careful what you buy.
Horsfield Nursery to the best of my knowledge cultivate there own trees, but as I said if you give them a ring they should be able to tell you.
They also specialise in Roses if you ever want to send your friend a rose.

Yes - and they should think carefully about which rootstock/scion combination grows as slowly or quickly as required......and (as we spoke about a couple of weeks ago) not to choose varieties that are sold in the shops or varieties that have been grown for so long around the whole UK that the diseases are well-adapted to attack them.

In my opinion, MM106 rootstock is the absolute minimum capable of becoming a decent-sized traditional apple tree, while in some soils/climates - or with some weak-growing apple varieties - MM106 may be too slow-growing, therefore MM111 or M25 may be necessary for adequate vigour and lifespan in less-favourable locations.
