Cranberry advice needed pls

I'd love to grow a cranberry bush so I can harvest my own cranberries for sauce next Christmas.

However, looking in a catalogue it says that they despatch cranberry bushes NEXT November, surely that must be to fruit in 2012!?

Will it be possible for me to find somewhere selling cranberry bushes to plant THIS spring to harvest in autumn 2011?

The bushes need quite acid soil/compost, dislike drying out (they're bog plants) and you'll be lucky to get much crop in the first season of planting.
I'm sure that there'll be a number of mail-order places that can supply young plants this winter - between now and March.

Yes, I'd be planting it in a pot. And there are only 2 of us, so just a few berries enough for a small splodge of sauce each next Christmas would be brilliant.

More berries in subsequent years would be wonderful

I found this posting very interesting, and Im very glad it was made. This plant be at the very top of my list for next year.

I have a raised bed with cranberries in, trouble is it dries out to much as it is peat based. May have to redo the bed and put in a plastic lining. Still got about half a pound of cranberries out of it. It is a trailing plant and the will root very easily.

You could try planting some seeds from the store bought ones, they should be stratified before planting.

I'm going to the market tomorrow and plan on getting some fresh cranberries not only for eating but for seeds. It would be interesting, if you could do the same, or any member that reads this posting interested in growing cranberries from seed.
