Pretty Upsidedown tomato planters & supports

I used two of these last year, but I've two queries, firstly are there any more attractive upside-down planters and second what sort of things do people hang them from. Last year my two were on hooks on the wall, but I'm thinking a stand of some sort might be good to hold a few, as I'd like to try more...


PS Not sure if tomato posts are usually in fruits as they are fruits or counted as veg ? So if any mod thinks this is the wrong place please move my post if that can be done !

Well, at Wisley this summer we saw all sorts of plastic bags hanging with plants growing out of the tops sides and bottoms. I would guess that any receptacle that you could make a hole in and hang would do ok. How about a decorative plastic beach ball?
In terms of hangers - how about the decorative bird feeder trees?

Ots the plastic bag look I hate ! I saw a nice hanging basket type but those were in the states. I coming to the conclusion there arn't any ready made so maybe I need tio get welding, I'm rather moving towards a wondow box idea rather than hanging as it seems less labour intensive (to make) I'd like to incorperate a water resevoir too as in the US one I saw

Do they work? I was a bit dubious that they'd always try growing up towards the sun??

Yes they work.Why is them growing towards the sun a problem ? The advantages for me are they are out the way of my maurauding geese (everything needs to be serveral feet upor fenced off) ! Easy to pick & staking is removed and I can place the in sunny spots on the South facing walls to increase light, heat & crop

See what you mean Mel that US one is much nicer, anyway I've had a bit of a look around and found this one, bit expensive though if you want a few of them.

Still not as pretty I don't think... so ithink I'll have to try & get some made, or make some, Still debating whether to go for hanging like the US one, or if to go for a bigger window basket stle something like Cast Iron Traditional Style Window Box Large - NEW on eBay (end time 07-Jan-11 19:35:22 GMT) but bigger and build in the top or on the end a resevoir... That way one could get 3 per box

With that style, why don't you use a standard hanging basket and just plant it out the bottom? Much prettier and it's definitely given me an idea for springtime

I once saw some made out of empty paint tins (the bigger plasticy ones) with holes punched out of the bottom, the outsides of the tins were painted to match and they were suspended from a wide arch structure. Looked very effective if you have the space and can face cleaning out the empty cans.

I am going to try that but I do wonder if a standard one will be deeo enough for bigger tomes, I've used them conventionally (right way up) for cherry toms before

but its that platic look again They will work & I have litterally 100s of ex yogurt pots that would work. I use them for apple grats. But it is function I want it is form & function lol
