Bummer, suppose it'll be a trip to the local garden centres perhaps.

If you order online from a reputable nursery, then they will supply you when they are ready - I would have thought bare-rooted is still an option.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Hi - just a late add to this. We have heavy clay soil and have 2 plums and a greengage growing fine and dandy here.
They sometimes have good years followed by bad, I guess the poor things exhaust themselves one year then rest a year!
The gage is Oulin's Golden Gage and is very tasty.
The plum's are Dittisham Black but is not prolific, and our favorite and top performer is - you guessed it - good old Victoria!!!
Sometimes the branches almost break with the weight of fruit!

I may send them an email enquiring about delivery etc - better than just blind ordering i think

                  Hi

You can buy the trees - I was saying that going to go out and buy lots to see if you like them, meant you were buying the fruit not the tree themselves; and any fruit that you bought would not have been grown here and thus not up to scratch.

I know, i was unsure at first, but after a quick trip out to a supermarket to sample some plums, i managed to connect the lack of plums and their foreign origin and thought 'darned, plums are out of season (few moments) so thats what that post on the forums meant!'

Needless to say, i explained the whole concept to my girlfriend
