  • signs of life already

I've just been having a mooch around outside and was amazed to see the tips of the cherry tree buds showing green as well as those on the blackcurrants. I've also got leaves actually unfurling on one of the blueberries. The garden is north east facing and the last snow pockets only went a couple of days ago. It's lovely to see signs of growth, I just hope things don't get a move on too quickly
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

I totally agree. I commented on how early the blackcurrant bushes were budding up a short while ago!

It's the same round our way.

The blackcurrants have got pea-szed buds, there are small buds on the gooseberries and I have even got a couple of 10 cm high baby pea plants that are self sets among the salad and spinach that I managed to overwinter in a makeshift cold frame!

there appears to be new fresh green foliage on the blueberry as well which pleases me

It came as one of three from Dobbies - one was pretty much DOA and the other lasted about 3 weeks before fizzling away to a stick...

we've still got lots of snow and ice and when i was poking around today I noticed that the rhubarb is making an appearance. I reckon the snow must have acted as a bit of an insulation and rhubarb decided to get a move on!

only problem is that the snow was so early, i didnt even have a chance to put any manure around the crown and think it's too late now!

hope we still get a good crop
