problematic graft

I picked up a couple of apple trees from Aldi today. I thought I checked them over well enough, but when I get them home I realized that one of them has a problem at the graft joint - the graft wood is separating from the rootstock. I know you get what you pay for, but is there anything that can be done about this? Or it just a loss?

If the graft does fail you could always graft on a fresh piece of scion wood from another tree.

Why not put some photos on so people can see how bad and what type of damage you have.

Take it back - they should exchange it for you.

A picture would be interesting, to try to guess what's gone wrong.

But you ought to be able to return as defective - a failing graft is not likely to have been caused by your journey home!

I know I should take it back and I might. But the store isn't exactly around the corner from me and I haven't decided yet if the amount I paid for it is worth the trip back...

They had fresh ones in the Aldi near me -today I bagged a Stella cherry to go with the Morello I planted on the lottie at the weekend!!
