can I plant blackcurrant bushes in February?

Hi ,
I'm a newbie here, so hope I'm posting in the right place, and it's not a recent thread. (Have looked, but you never know !)
I live in the far north of Scotland. Would I be able to plant new blackcurrant bushes just now, or is it something which should be done in the autumn ?

I think late autumn is best but they can be planted now - I planted a couple last year around this time.

Autumn is best, but winter is OK.

In terms of root growth, I'd say that:

Spring: 30% of annual root growth (soil is rather cold and the above-ground part starts to take control).

Summer: 20% of annual root growth (soil is often drier - which impairs root growth - and the above-ground part is taking the nutrients).

Autumn: 40% of annual root growth (soil is warm and moist, with the roots receiving all the summer's energy from the leaves, as the leaves prepare to fall).

Winter: 10% of annual root growth (soil is too cold for fast growth - or frozen, which makes the soil impenetrable).

I've planted trees and bushes around this time, and March also. They've all survived and done okay.

you sure can anytime between november till march should be fine.last year i bought a blackcurrant barerooted in may from my local pound shop it grew fine and im expecting fruit this year from it

Got two home grown blackcurrant bushes from cuttings in my car (lovely smell) ready to be planted out tomorrow and I've given two to my mate at work to do the same!
