  • Plant Protection

    Hi All,

This is my first year growing fruit trees and veg, so apologies if it seems ignorant what i'm asking!

I have recently planted some raspberries, a blueberry and a selection of currants in my garden. They are all in relatively sheltered spots, but the last week or so there have been frosts and I'm concerned they may need some protection. My mother-in-law has had them in her garden (in the south) for years, and has never put protection round them and they have been fine. I was just wondering with them being recently planted whether they would benifit from it? None of them have budded yet by the way, but are just starting to show new signs of life.

Also, I'm concerned about what temperature I should be keeping my greenhouse. At the momment it is getting up to 25 degrees celsius in the day, but the temperature plummets as soon as the sun goes off it, and over night there was even some ice in the watering can I keep in there this morning. I have a number of plants and seeds in there; will they be ok with the temperature fluctuations?

    Thanks in advance,

    Michael

It completely depends on what they are ...

Some peeps on here add insulation to their greenhouse in the shape of bubblewrap. Still lets the light in but adds a thickness to the glass.

I've only got the hardy stuff in the greenhouse at the mo so last nights frost and ice shouldn't give them much trouble.
