birds vs berries

I've used old CDs around the edges of pots (just pushed into the soil facing inwards) and that seems to have put off the blackbirds. Not sure if it is because they don't like reflections or that they can't stand on the edges and throw all the soil out looking for worms, but it has worked!

Other than full netting (including a roof), not found anything that works for sparrows yet. I just make sure it's taut net and check it regularly.

They also don't seem to like being run at by the slightly crazed gardener.

my garden looks like everything has a dustcover over it.
i bought a load of fleece last year in a poundland sale 2 for 1 and i have wrapped almost all in that and this year my blueberries are huge and loaded with fruit as was and is my strawberries.

In the past I have tried both CDs and threaded bottle tops, neither of which worked. I now use voile, cheap and nasty but very effective!

My neighbour build a fruit cage covered with netting and I sit and watch birds fly in and out. Covered my strawberries with netting -didn't work then chicken wire made into a cloche like shape, still got eaten, put s'berries in jar, still got eaten, think it might be mice, certainly not me.
Can you ,if possible state whether your netting very small holes or large. I've been using ex football goal netting which is quite large and has been good for keeping birds of Brassicas but not whitefly.

I usually find a fast-moving lurcher running up and down the garden is quite an effective 'scarecrow', aside from this I use net lol

I brought a device called a "THE SCARCROW BIRD SCARER" it connects to a hose with the tap turned on it has a movement detecter (battery operated) connected and when set off it sounds and looks like the water hose at a football pitch with the noise as well worked a treat with my koi pond>>> Hope this helps J
