  • Sharon fruit tree

Does anyone have any experience growing sharon fruit tree? I've got a 2ft tall plant tht I bought from Bakker in Oct and re-potted them. During the winter months, I had placed it in the unheated greenhouse. Since Spring is here, can I actually put the plant outside in the open and how often do I need to water it? I was told that this plant doesnt like too much water?

According to my book that one isn't bothered about soil conditions but needs full sun.
Says it's hardy to zone 6 (-23 to -18) so should be ok outside although it will probably only fruit in a good summer. If it does fruit, it says to harvest as late as possible, usually after the leaves have dropped , Should be self fertile although a few of the varieties aren't.
Can grow to 4-6m (13 - 20') high and wide
Doesn't say anything about water so can't help you there, sorry.

        Hope that helps
Let us know how you get on with it, always nice to see how well the more unusual fruits do

Thanks Purplekat! Takes off my worries there on caring abt the plant. Probably I'd leave it to 'mother nature' to water them for me . I've checked them today and looks like it showing some signs of growth at the moment although slow. At the moment I'm still leaving it in the pot for it to grow. My dad teased me saying tht if I were to leave them growing in the pot, the fruits wd only grow the size of marbles!

Will post progress when it starts to fruit!
