  • Strawberries beneath container fruit trees?

I have two cordon fruit trees, a cherry and a plum, which are both in large containers. Would it be okay to plant a few strawberries around the base of the tree?

If they were in the ground and on a fairly vigorous rootstock then I'd say yes however trees in pots tend to be on very dwarf roots that don't like competition - the trees are already going to be slightly stressed anyway being in pots (although that normally helps them to fruit more)

I think it depends partly on your trees - if they were expensive ones I wouldn't risk it, however if they were cheap ones from aldi etc. then it might be worth having a go and see if it has a effect on the crop. I've seen it done quite often in books
