Last year I grew cantaloupe melon - Edonis f1 in my pollytunnel. I managed to harvest 2 fruits, and the taste was fantastic. I can honestly say I've never tasted melon like it.

This year I'm going to try cantaloupe - Hearts of gold, has anyone tried these?

And to think I was going to throw the plants away, as they looked half dead!

I've grown Minnesota Midget a couple of times and got a few small fruit off them but to be honest I've now realised that I'm not actually that fussed about melons and that I'd rather use the space for other things which are more use to me. I've usually sown about nowish and then grown on before planting out in the greenhouse and growing in probably about a 10" pot with plenty of food and water. Did try another variety years ago and got quite bigish fruits but they never ripened as the season seemed so short so I think you're better off with smaller ones.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I am trying Minnesota Midget for the first time this year. I've ignored melons for a couple of years now after a few dismal failures, but thought that maybe trying small ones would be better. If I have space left in the greenhouse I will probably pop a couple of Sweethearts and Watermelon Sugar Baby in just to watch them fail as they have before!

I have been harvesting a couple like her's for some years now. Really makes my back ache though;-)

Sweetheart for me this year although I did get watermelons like those in the picture last year.

I don't even know what LV or Mulberry is - or the relevance of each - it's a complete mystery to me.

I've just planted two Sweetheart seeds this afternoon, it tells me on the packet they are a greenhouse variety so I'll give it a go. I think I tried a different variety a few years ago but just ended up with nice greenery - will see what happens

If I wanted to spend that sort of money. . . I'd get a new greenhouse

ps grew Sweetheart a few times and ended up with a couple of tennis ball sized melons each time - tasted sensational but took up too much room for that sort of harvest!
