  • Rhubarb from seed - what next? Help!!

    Hi all

I've grown these little rhubarb plants (pics below) from seed which I am proud of because I thought they were really difficult to start. However, they have lived longer than I expected so now I have no idea what to do with them next.

I think they are healthy but they do seem quite floppy and don't really stand up well on their own. Should I try and support them? Or, just leave until they're slightly bigger and then move to larger pots.

    Any advice would be useful.

Ah, I can't enlarge your pics

Where are you keeping them? Floppy sounds like they're too warm and possibly too wet (a common fault with those peat pots)

Sorry about the pics, it's the first time i've added them since the system changed so it took me a while to get them there!

Thanks for the advice, that sounds sensible because they are in the polytunnel at the moment and because the weather is so warm and sunny it is getting extremely hot during the day and I am out at work so not there to help regulate the temperature.

I think if they look wet it's because i'd just watered them before the pic was taken.

Do you think a sunny or bright window sill in the house would be better?

      Thanks again

Ok, I'll find a nice spot for it in the garden and take it in at night - thanks again

              Thanks very much!

I've had them outside during the day all week, so I will have a proper look at them over the weekend and see what i can do.

Congrats on growing massive ones this year

I grow seed every year and keep them in pots (5") until autumn and then plant out. I only grow them to give away.

I'm growing Rhubarb from seed currently about 1cm big. Not really sure what I should do with them now. Never grown Rhubarb never even tasted it! I bought a propagator and seeds for a pound (18 seeds) a bargain I think esp if I like it
