I just let the grass grow up to the trunks. I use shears to chop the grass that grows within a couple of inches of the trunk. Don't use a strimmer round the trunk because it will strip off the tree bark and possibly kill the tree.

I have dwarfing trees, apple, pear and plum, I thought they needed to be kept grass free, at least for 3 years. Is this not so? I'll be happy to not have anything around them if it's not needed.
