I have just about removed a self seeded cherry plum by the corner of the house and would like to replace it with a dessert grape.
The back of the house faces west with a little bit of south in it. The corner is at the north end, and so get the sun last. It would not be possible to plant at the south corner.
The flat roof overhangs the wall by about a foot or so, and the plan is to train the vine under the overhang to give added protection from the frost during the early spring/late autumn.
Can anyone recommend a dessert grape that will grow in these conditions? I would prefer white, but will consider anything that has a chance of succeeding. I have been advised not to bother with anything but an early variety owing to the west facing aspect. The ground is heavy clay but this could be altered or improved if necessary.
Thanks
Rob
