You could try repotting in JI No3 or citrus compost. Also try giving a feed.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

I wouldnt necessarily repot it, as it might just cause more stress, often its better just to stand the pot on something warm to warm and dry the compost a bit.
Have you got any more information about what happened to it? did the leaves change colour, did all of the leaf fall off or did it leave the leaf stalk / pettiole on the branch , how long had they had it before you got it? Have you got a photo of it?,
Where there any insects, check any leaves it still has or its branches for very tiny spider mites as they can be a problem
Usualy if the leaves fell off during the winter it will be fine, if not and they have fallen off now it could be frost if it was outside, or usualy it will have been over watered, it should only be watered once dry for an inch or two down the pot
Keep it out of direct light, let the soil dry out, dont keep it in a saucer, and mist it with luke warm water ( preferably with a pinch of citrus fertiliser in it , and a pinch of sugar per litre)
If you have a thermometer, measure the temperature of the compost, if its not warm enough when light hits the tree the leaves will fall off, placing it on somethingw arm so the compost is about 28C is the best way to make it grow quickest to repair its roots if they are damaged,Living off grid and growing my own food in Bulgaria.....

Repotting probably won't hurt but they do need plenty of feeding as they can put on lots of leaf growth through the summer, so buy a citrus fertiliser and feed regularly. It should recover as long as the main stem is still green.
