  • say goodbye to summer

well,we had the stormy winds,70/80mph and more, just had a good look and over half of my late raspberries, gooseberries, blackcurrants, cherries and plums are gone.this was going to be a bumper year, providing the rain eventually stops,13 consequetive days now,and its so cold,5deg in the greenhouse, nothing seems to be growing in there and i think the toms will start rotting if the temp doesnt rise soon,i suppose we should look forward to next year as this one is going like last year, and that was the pits....oh and three weeks ago we were being told by the weather people that may would be our hottest ever heatwave on record, and they get paid for these predictions?

    Providing the rain stops?

We've seen barely a drop of rain since January. Possibly the longest drought and hottest start to a year that we've ever seen.
Very hot, dry and sunny here (although we're usually the lowest-rainfall part of the UK).
Powdery mildew and aphids are at epidemic proprtions, the likes of which I've never seen.
Plants and trees are keeling over from drought stress all over the place.

Oh for some rain - some really heavy and penetrating rain. The soil is bone dry down to a depth of at least 1ft and the water butts have been empty for months.
