DIY Tobacco

My lad has asked if he can grow some tobacco plants for his own use as he does rollies. Firstly does anyone know if this is legal, you hear so much about cannabis etc but I'm not sure if this is a no no as far as HM customs are concerned. If its permissable any advice on growing...is our climate unsuitable or does it need a greenhouse the size of wembley to cope with the size or amount of plants needed.

So far as I tell it is legal providing you aren't going to sell it. Looks like it will grow ok, but takes time to cure and mature.

I knew a vicar who grew his own. He hung it in the garage to dry but sent it away to get it cured. He was a pipe smoker but I presume it would be the same for roll your own. It may turn out to be so nasty that he would give up
