the one good thing about the terrible spring/early summer we have had up here has been the total lack of sawfly on the gooseberry bushes, usually i get my garden seat out(the type you reverse to help with standing up) and spend 30mins on each plant picking them off ,before feeding them to the chooks, with the constant rain and cold nights they seem to have given us a miss.now the sun is here we have our best crop of goosegogs in years,we now have 6 bushes and 10 young plants that come from seed, all from one purchase,i shove the prunings into the nursery bed and let them get on with it,thats my type of plant, all the berries are the colour of a good claret,so we will pick them this week sometime and freeze down the surplus for winter use, with custard,on a cold winters day, oh yeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss...happiness is a full belly..
