  • pear ripening

In addition to a full-sized pear tree, I have a little one (6ft tall) that usually gives me upto 10 pears each autumn. This year it went mental and produced 60+ fruits, losing only a few in the June drop. The weight of them bent the poor thing over until it was almost lying on the butternut squash plants so I've harvested about half of the fruit taking those that were causing the most weight problems and the tree looks much happier now. Question is how do I ripen the harvested fruits in order to use them?? Is it a paper bag and some bananas, or is there another crafty method?

I would try your paper bag method. It may be worth thinning the fruit in May which will benefit the tree for future years too. Too much fruit in one year may result in biennial fruiting where you may get no pears the following year.
