  • Damson?

Never having eaten one, not sure what they're like. Found these on that site I was going on about before:

Very tart at the moment, initally thought that they might be fat ripe sloes, but the leaves look distinctly plum-like... so I'm guessing they are damsons, just not quite ripe yet?

Yup - not ready yet. Soon though.

      Thanks chuck!

Hope they hurry up and ripen, any time now the land is going to be levelled to build houses on!

I'd take a few trays full to ripen off the tree - just in case it gets the dozer before they are ripe.

Sloe bushes have thorns, Chris. They look like lovely damsons to me.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

thanks both - I have picked some incase they will ripen off the tree, same as some plums (purple ones.. president/opal? - they're just turning and already quite tastey *shrug*)

If they don't ripen fully I'll cook with them anyway! Honestly it's like finding a goldmine. Probably 10 odd different apple trees, 3/4 pears, this damnson, 2 types of plums, herbs, etc. If I found this place when I was a kid, I'd spend the whole day up the tree munching ont he apples (well, I practically did last night, climbed the tree to take some cuttings to send to folk who'd like to graft and munched my way through a fair few).

            Lovely evening

Can you start a petition to save this place? Sounds amazing. Too good for new housing that probably isn't needed...

GN just suggested the same thing! They're only waiting for a right of passage to be blocked, all the planning has gone ahead. Apparantly there was a massive stance against it though - can see why.
