  • Raspberry re-siting this year.

You're never to old to learn..........or so they say.

I have a shaded area between my hen hut and next doors hut which borders my plot. This would make an ideal place for raspberries methinks so i went ahead and planted a four foot wide bed there.

The rasps have flourished and given me an excellent crop for the last couple of years.

Problem is I can only collect half of it because its up against next doors hut, and once 'leafed up' it doesnt allow me much room to get into my hut door and collect eggs.

My project for this year is to shift the rasps to another 4 foot wide bed that I can access from BOTH sides.
I don't know whether its because they are shaded or what but my rasps always finish up 8 foot tall?

Mine aren't in the shade and they are usually about 6' . My top wire is at 5' so if they grow much more than that I bend them over and tie them to the top . Which also seems to encourage more side shoots and fruit.

Not particularily looking forward to transpalanting 8 foot long canes, but I don't want to loose next years crop!

My 'Autumn Bliss' and 'All Gold', which are in their first full year of cropping - I got a small crop from them last year, but it was their first year, so they weren't fully established - are about 4'6", and I thought that was vigorous! Shows how much I know! Getting a very good crop of the AG, not so impressive from the AB, but the latter seems to ripen somewhat later: the AG is in full production, whereas the AB is only just starting up. Is this usual?
Going a bit off-topic here, I suppose - apologies. What I will be moving is my strawberries, which are currently around the bases of the razzies. Now I've got a lottie, I'll move them to one of the former veg. beds, so they can have more sun.
