  • What Tree

i have a rather woody straggly bush growing up against a wall probably about 6ft tall and not particularly healthy, although it does refuse to die.

It is deciduous and has a strong orange blossom, the fruit looks like a small yellow apple (2~3 inch diameter) with a very sticky surface.

My first thought was that it was a crab apple, but not with the orange flowers.

    Any suggestions?

My thought as well. Cut these down to ground level and they grow back. Wonderful when they get out of control.

Sounds like a Japanese quince to me too - and you can actually eat the fruit cooked but they are very pippy!!

Thanks, looked at a few pictures and it does seem to be a quince.

My Nan used to make jelly from the fruit of one that grew over from her neighbour's garden - it was a lovely Amber colour, and very tasty. ::
