I can't grow rhubarb at all, not by any means. I've bought 3 plants now, all died soon after planting (I blamed that on Wilkos)
I had seed, that germinated then the seedlings just curled up and died (I blamed that on the weather).

Last autumn, a neighbour gave me a bit of crown, which I planted and soaked. It then disappeared (I'll blame that on the erm ... winter)

Having read nearly every page of last year's Diary I find that I sowed the Rhubarb seeds on 17th May - rather later than advised but, they're up and I'm not complaining! When they were potted on remains a mystery.

You surprise me Two_Sheds - I can think of nothing easier to grow. Have you tried a decent-sized, healthy crown? My Dad gave me a crown of Timperley Early, which I put in a plastic bag and transported from Kent to the Midlands. About a fortnight later I eventually got round to planting it, but it had started to go rotten and mouldy. I trimmed back the dodgy bits and planted it, and it went off like wildfire! I wanted to split it this winter, but it's been so mild that it's already sprouting. With a cold snap due, I'm a bit worried about how it'll react.

I am dividing mine up( a bit late I know) Would you like a root or so? You could pick from these this year and leave yours to grow on. You are not supposed to pick even from crowns in the first year but you could use them as a "sacrifice".

Grew some from seed about 6 - 7 years ago, been in a bed, various containers, moved here there everywhere. Now been in a raised bed for 2 years and even if I do say so myself they have been excellent!
                Cheers

I sowed some from seed a few years ago, kept them on the kitchen window ledge for a few weeks and planted out in the back garden, then moved them to the allotment, but I still get some that grows in the garden. I guess I didn't get all of the root when I moved them. They seem to be indestructible, as I am not that careful about caring for any of my plants.
