As a new gardener I'm on a very steep learning curve at the moment and I'm finding lots of conflicting advice on various websites and forums, so.... I'm wondering what fruit (soft and orchard) growing books you would recommend for a novice.

Yes, fully agree with T L O above, the 'Expert' books are a good starting point, and as mentioned not too expensive. - Just checked Ebay and there are several listed all under £3.00 incl postage, so a modest investment indeed.

The RHS also publish a number of books on fruit growing.

You won't find it new, and its not just about fruit, but a book I find invaluable is the Readers Digest book called "Food from your Garden". You should find it on Amazon etc.

There is one, not yet published, called something like Fruit and Vegetables for Scotland. I think it is due out later this year

No Doubt in my mind and I recommend it time and time again. The RHS Publication "Fruit" by Harry Baker.

            ISBN 0 85533 193 3

There are normally second hand copies on Amazon for a few pence plus postage.

You never get conflicting advice on this forum. We may have the occasional exchange of ideas but you will always get the best we can offer.

I have this book (RHS Growing Fruit, Baker), or a similar one (mine has a different ISBN) and whilst it is usually my first reference for all questions about fruit, sometimes I do find it a little difficult to follow (it seems to assume a bit more knowledge than I have). Would recommend it though.

I got a free one from Ken Muir when I bought fruit plants from them a few years ago so I use that!
