  • Planting under blackberry?

Ive just planted a Loch Ness Blackberry in a semi circular bed (about 2ft wide and 1ft deep). I want to plant something in the space beneath but am wondering if its ok to do so??, is there anything that I shouldnt plant??
(I was thinking about something like borrage or mint which would be contained by the concrete bed).

I haven't got anything under my blackberries, I use grass clipping etc to keep everything moist but I don't think planting a herb as ground cover will do your brambles much harm - although borage self-seeds everywhere and is a huge plant, 3ft x2ft!!

Blackberries up the back wall of my garage/workshop, underplanted with rhubarb.

The rhubarb can mostly be harvested before too many new blackberry canes emerge, and the old blackberry canes are tied up mostly out of the way.
