Just got back from a very wet lottie, but managed a few snaps of my Peach and Nectarine, both are outdoors. Fingers crossed they might actually stay on the tree to ripen if we ever get any sunshine that is.

I remember crushing some of the leaves last year and getting a marzipan aroma. I know that peach stones contain cyanide which has a marzipan aroma as well.

We used to kill butterflies humainly for mounting on boards by putting the butterfly in a jar with crushed laurel leaves (also smell of marzipan) Makes me wonder whether the peach tree is a relative of the laurel?

        I digrees anyway.................

When I went into the greenhouse this evening there was a lovely sweet smell where the sunshine had heated the tree up and through osmosis, I reckon it must have been perspiring cyanide gas?...........

We've had some peach leaf curl here, as our peach and nectarine are planted outside. We applied Bordeaux Mix a couple of times, and have been picking off the worst affected leaves, and fortunately the fruit has still come through, and the trees are looking healthier.
We had over 20 nectarines, but I have thinned these out considerably and just left 5 strong ones to develop

And we have three very healthy peaches

Can't wait for them to ripen.

Sounds wonderful - good recipe is peach crumble, or cobbler and custard - perfect!

Update on mine. I sunk the pot into the greenhouse border but some of the leaves were still touching the eaves.
Rightly or wrongly I've pruned back some of the new growth.

Nice one Snadge, that's what I aspire to next year.

the young peaches are now the size of apricots and looking lovely, how do you tell they are ripe,is it like melons that smell lovey when ready?, for once we had the good weather last weekend and after some light drizzle last night we need the forecast rain, yes rain needed,in scotland,i know, beggars belief, but its really true, and dont forget, you will be able to tell your grandkids as it wont happen again in my lifetime......

Had to do a double take this morning at the lottie as I checked my Peach Tree, I now have 3 of these beauties all about tennis ball size, not sure when to pick them or how to protect them from birds etc? Very chuffed though..
