Autumn Fruit

Hello there,

Someone told me autumn was a good time to plant fruiting plants. Is this the case and if so does anyone know how I should go about it?

Autumn is a good time to plant fruit....but you dont say what....need to narrow it down a little!

You can take hardwood cuttings from a friendly neighbours plants and almost just stick them in the ground to make new plants.

Taking cuttings is a great way to propogate currants and gooseberries, and is literally like the previous chap said, cut decent cuttings approx 10-12 inches long and push them somewhere into the soil out of the way and forget about them for a year. Check them then and you should find that most have rooted, pot them up, inreasing the pot size each year till they are 2-3 years old and then plant out into their permanent positions.

I cultivate a dozen or so plants a year this way and pass them on to friends and fellow plot holders.

The best thing is that its free, it just takes a while to get fruit.
