Hi
I have 4 blueberries in my allotment, all purchased from a local garden centre this year. They are all 30-50cm high at the moment.
The allotment is a new allotment, and the soil was quite a heavy clay soil. So I dug into the ground, put ericaceous soil in and then planted them, followed by a mulch of general bark.
They seemed ok but now they seem to be struggling, indeed I think one is dead so I removed it today. The others have lots of white flowers, but the flowers are starting to shrivel and go brown like they are dying.
I am wondering if I should have dug a whole lot deeper than I did before filling with ericaceous.....and that the roots are now fighting with no way to get through and meeting clay. Do you think this is the problem?
I have never fed them and in this heat are getting watered with rain water most days.
Some honest advice is needed
Thanks
Craig
