Fruitless Gooseberry bushes.

My 2 gooseberry bushes haven't produced any fruit this year, although they've grown well and are really healthy looking. They've produced fruit before
Is it perhaps due to the terrible weather we had early on in the year?

mine did this last year, not a single fruit
we had off 12 bushes something over 100lbs of the blighters year before that though so assumed they were having a rest, loads again this year though, should start picking at the weekend

Do you think this is what they do? ruit one year, have a year off then repeat!!

I've heard of bienial bearing on trees, but not on gooseberries. It could well have been poor weather during flowering, as I am sure this is what has caused my plum tree not to have any fruits this year.

Are they in heavy leaf, or are the leaves quite sparse too?

Lots of leaves Chris. The bushes are looking really healthy. But they've not even flowere this year Last year I had lots of fruit on both of them, this year....nowt.

I was so looking forward to my goozegogs. That and my raspberries are the highlight of my year!

Our gooseberries seem to havea smaller crop this year too. But last year we thought generally to be a great year for soft fruit because of the drought/heat in early spring.

My red 2/3 year old red gooseberries have produced a lot of growth this year but no fruit but my green gooseberries have grown well and fruited quite well too. I do not know why there is this difference . Any ideas ?

Either the weather or bullfinches eating the buds.........or they've fruited and the pigeons have beaten you to it.......

Sawfly caterpillars would decimate the leaves not the fruit........

Mine has only two piddly gooseberries on it this year, but early this yeari did transplant it from elsewhere in the garden so i expect that's what did it in my case.

Hmmm I have two gooseberries that dont fruit either (I mean they've never fruited) Maybe its the variety, perhaps it needs a pollinator?
