Can I grow redcurrants in pots? If so, any tips on making a success of it?

Because I have just recently changed allotments I have all my soft fruit in 10 inch pots including redcurrants, white currants and blackcurants. Because they have started growing I don't want to disturb them this year so when I have there alloted area cleared I intend sinking the pots in the soil in there eventual positions for this year and taking them out of there pots and planting them in the same postion next year after giving it a good dose of well rotted manure.
My reasoning for sinking the pots this year is to cut down on water loss and so that they can't be toppled over on my exposed site. It will also give me some idea of the eventual spacing etc!
I hope to get a decent crop this year followed by a better one next year!

You can, but they'll need to be large pots (10" at least) and you also need to keep an eye on the watering. Good luck!Comment
