Strawberry help!!

Hi guys, I first posted for advice a while back, I'm new to growing things.

I currently have 2 lots of strawberries growing, that I started in the greenhouse, but I think they are big enough now to move outside.

But I'm worried about bugs and birds getting them. Are there any cheap methods to prevent this??

I'm keeping them in pots, not in the ground. Not as worried about birds as we have cats, more about bugs as I've already noticed a few have creeped in the greenhouse!

Hi Ruby, I would just throw a net over them, an old net curtain would do if you have one lying around but the birds will eat the bugs outside.

I agree with Bigmallly, a trip down to the charity shop should track down a few bits of window twicher's curtain. Held up with a few short sticks from a convenient hedgerow.

Vine weevil grubs (they look like maggots) will eat the roots of strawberry plants (and other plants) which are grown in pots because the predators often don't manage to find them as the predators would while wandering underground.

I have all my strawberries in pots and they are starting to crop now. I have kept them inside the greenhouse but will put the pots outside until next spring after they are finished fruiting.
I have always grown them in pots and so far I have had no trouble from any pests.
