  • Strawberry Question

Can anyone give me some advice with my strawberries, some of them are growing into an odd shape.

Why are they growing like this, i have been feeding them every 2 weeks with a seaweed feed, could it be the feed?

Could be a number of things. Is the rest of the plant showing signs too? I have plants that produce misshapen fruit and the leaves are similarly effected, so I throw those way.

Low night temperatures may also affect pollination and cause the problem.

I've read that it's due to incomplete pollination, which has happened on about 20% of my strawbs, not suprising given they began to flower during the terrible downpours we had a while back.

I'm no expert so there could well be other problems that cause it.

Seaweed feed is the cause. It's the tides rolling your strawberries back and forth.

              Cheers, Tony.

I'd go with this, too. If you try to get really early fruit in a greenhouse or tunnel you are usually recommended to rub your hands over the flowers to get good pollination in the absence of insects. (I use a big paint brush.) I should think if you've had flowers around in bad weather the same problems might occur.
