Pinkberry Pink Lemonade Plant

I was intrigued to see this variety in this month's GYO magazine and want to know if anyone has ever seen it/tried any of the berries before?

I am a sucker for new things and as a keen fruit grower they do take my fancy but at £15 for a plant I'd rather see if I can get some opinions before putting a hole in my wallet.

They apparently "took the US by storm" but after googling for this I can't find that many links/articles (which makes me think it's a bit of marketing horse manure). However I am attracted by the twice as sweet and unusual colouring they give and the OH chomps through blueberries like there is no tomorrow so even if it the claims aren't all that then maybe it's worth the punt.

I just remembered having searched through my emails that last time I ordered from Suttons I didn't receive a particular good service first-time round. The 3 blueberry plants I received were very small, and had lost all of their foliage in shipping. One of the plants looked like a mere stump with one dead branch. To be fair to to Sutton's, after a complaint they were very sorry and sent a replacement order, still the size of the plants was tiny compared to the two I purchased from my local garden center.

Given these aren't available until November time I'll probably wait and see if they become available in garden centers, if not I'll order with Suttons and give them another go for their good customer service.

I saw a picture of these a couple of days ago, and thought "I have got to get some!" my little girl (6) is seriously into anything Pink, and anything that encourages her to eat more fruit has got to be a good thing. :-)
I did a bit of searching, and found a few American sites talking about them, and yes they are popular but just as many comments like "It's just not right, they should be Blue"
There is also a sort of half way one called "Pink-a-blu"
I found the pink lemonade plants on Amazon for $7.99 but they have had them in America for a few years now, maybe the price will come down here soon.

I have ordered one of these ! A sucker for anything new !!
I bought a blueberry plant last year from Suttons and it is doing well and has lots of fruit, so I am hoping the same for my pink one. They do need special compost though.

Acidic soil or ericaceous if growing in pots with regular mulching of something like pine needles.

Mine has arrived - small but perfectly formed The books alongside for scale are paperbacks.
The 3 free packets of seed were Tomato - Black Cherry, Carrot Healthmaster F1 and Pepper Golden bell F1.

I actually purchased 3 plants prior to this offer, and they all look identical to the one you show in the photo vc. I also ordered 2 (yes that's right the plantoffers.com website doesn't restrict to one per person as the magazine mentions) from the offer on the mag, and I got an email saying they had been dispatched today so I should expect them shortly

I'll comment back on the seeds (then we can see if its a random selection or it T&M have an excess of the above 3 they are trying to get rid of ;-) )

Those Carrot seeds have been included in almost every "free" seed collection I've received recently. They're all Sow before Dec 2015 so plenty of time to do summat with them
