How long do blackcurrants take to ripen?

Blackcurrants - 13th July - still green



The bushes were grown from cuttings 2 years ago. This is their first year for fruiting.

My blackcurrants have been disappointing this year - I usually get long strings of currants on the bush, but this year there is just the odd one here and there throughout the bush.

I don't remember seeing many bees around while they were flowering, so perhaps that is why.

I may leave them on the bush for the birds this year - they won't be worth the trouble of picking
