  • Tayberry- new growth

I planted two tayberry canes at the beginning of the year, they've both got fruit on and have started to grow one new shoot each (which are about 2 inches long at the moment). I was just wondering whether I should expect more shoots to come up? I had assumed that I'd get quite a few new shoots so that when I cut out the two current canes once they've finished fruiting I'd have several new canes for next years fruit, however that doesn't seem to be what's happening.

    Thanks

Some patience Renny. You will perhaps get a second shoot, but I think you will have to live with one shoot this year (one that will get very long +- 3-4 meters). Next year, you can expect anything from 2-5 shoots, depending from your soil

As Sugar said, it's early days for your plants and they may well produce more shoots this year and certainly several more the year after that. I'm amazed that you have fruit (I presume you left the canes long when you planted them.
