Pixie apple - (Which? winner of Best Tasting Apple poll conducted in October) I've just got some out of the store, its still slightly underripe, the green areas haven't begun to yellow and its very crisp. Quite a nice flavour, considering the weather, but not something you'd yearn for.

Golden Delicious not even listed there, but it is probably the most consumed apple of all. Considering that most are picked when barely ripe, kept in cold store for ages, and have been packaged for supermarkets, it is suprising how good these CAN be even after all that. Pick a fully ripe one of these direct from your own tree and you will completely change your view of 'Les Golden' as the French call them. The same is true, of course, of fresh grown strawberries from your garden as opposed to the product bought in January imported from Kenya or somewhere.Comment

I hope I haven't confused you - this was a different poll - What apple do you recommend to grow? as a follow on to the Which Best one. That one's here and just gave a choice of 13 apple varieties ( no GD either)Comment
