best tasting plum

Hi all, I decided to create a poll on all the available plum trees that i know are available. To aid people when making choices about what plum tree to buy.

When you post a new thread, right at the bottom of the page it asks whether you want to create a Poll. I've never noticed before either!! I see that one of these fruit polls is showing the names of those who voted too

I was reading the thread Which? Apple on this forum and i noticed some people suggested that someone create a poll. As the poll on that thread did not have many apple varieties to choose from.

As it seemed people were asking for one but nobody bothered to actually go ahead and create one.
So i had 15 minutes spare so i just created one each for plums, apples and pears.

Thanks for replying. Sometimes forums like this can be used for research purposes so it helps if people make it clear why they are asking these questions at the outset.

plum tree recommendations

I'm currently growing Blue Tit based upon advice and video evidence. It's in its third year and has just got around to dropping about 90% of its leaves and has revealed a fantastic network of fruiting spurs for next year. After a dreadful summer with lots of leafy, whippy growth and early leaf-drop due to an unknown infection the tree seems to have survived what I'm sure has been one of the wettest summers I can remember.

Hopefully, next year I'll be witnessing a beautiful bouquet of blossom. Then, if we have a lovely warm and sunny spring followed by a nice summer I'll be able to have my first taste of home-grown plums.

According to to reports, the plum is resistant (although perhaps not this year!) to a variety of infections and diseases and produces a large crop of tasty plums. From the advice I've received, it tastes better than both Victoria & Opal - although, as per usual, this is down to personal preference. However, importantly, it doesn't carry the same branch breaking loads that other varieties do. Although, this is again from not my personal experience, but that of others.

It is probably also important to point out that I have been growing my Blue Tit in a pot on the Pixy roostock.

I have a couple of Victoria's and also Cambridge gage in the hedgerow. A friend (yes you) recommended Opal and upon that basis I bought one. All are first year trees so no fruit yet but my personal favourite is a Mirabelle which you don't have listed. Very honeyed and syrupy, if that's even a word

I've voted on this year's fruit - only Satsuma, Kirkes, Victoria, Violetta, Mirabelle and Anna Spath had any and all would have been better for a week's sunshine. Judging by the buds there could be a good crop next year, with fifteen new varieties possibly cropping for the first time. I don't really rank fruit though, I like so many plums for their different flavours.
