No - definitely not crab apples, they were bought as part of a set of 3 patio fruit trees, two apples and a conference pear.

All the pictures I have seen of these type of trees show full sized fruits - maybe this years' weather was to blame, or perhaps I didn't feed the trees enough?

As this is the first year that I have had any fruit at all (lots of flowers previously, but nothing set) I don't have anything to compare size with, but either way I don't really care as they taste really nice

Mine have been eaten by blackbirds and a few of the remaining starlings. Saw a redwing having lunch there as well. I left them as food for the birds, only a few left on the tree and my freezer is full of stewed apple.

One good thing about the Ballerina style of fruit tree is that there are no side branches for the birds to perch upon, so that it one less problem for me to worry about.
