    Yet more evidence that:

    1. The pests prefer certain varieties.
    2. Local climate makes a big difference.

the little swine are very fond of Glen Ample and being this far north doesn't seem to reduce their numbers at all

The quantities of Glen aren't Ample then?

Same for me in West Wales as far as the loganberrys go -so bad that I dug them out for good a couple of years ago.
I have problems with raspberry beetle and it gets worse as the summer progresses. I don't spray. Hence, I'd go for a couple of early fruiting varieties of raspberry

I found Tayberries a great disappointment for flavour - and big husks.

Gave them up and concentrated of rasps - several types.. Glen Ample,Polka etc..

As far as beetle is concerned, varies from year to year. I don't spray or take any precautions: maybe the birds eat them? (they love rasps !but we don't net and let them have their share)

From Left to Right : Tayberry - Boysonberry - Raspberry (Tulameen) - Raspberry (Glenn Doll) - Black raspberry.

My advice? Tastewise, there is not a single other plant in the Rubus-genius that comes close to the Tayberry taste (yes, raw for me please). I simply adore them, way better than raspberry and blackberry imho.

Main disadvantage of Tayberries : they all ripen within a very limited time-frame. While some blackberries give me fruit for several months (Triple Crown excels on this part), Tayberries all ripen within 6 weeks.
I'll try both blackberries and tayberries then. Thanks everyone.

My chicken are allowed to wander freely in the garden from november until may (when the first fruit ripens) as an important link in pest control.
One rooster and 6 hens of a heritage breed, they check out every square inch of my garden for bugs .

Another fan of Autumn raspberries here. I've got mainly Autumn Bliss and have found them more productive than the summer ones.

Not grown tayberry, but often think blackberries are a bit of a waste of space as they can be found all over the place in the wild.
