  • family apple tree

In the autumn I treated myself to a miniature apple tree. It is a family apple tree which grows both James Grieve and Elstar. Unfortunately I have been a little lax over the winter months. I have bought a large container for it but have not repotted it yet. What I'd like to know is can I repot it now or at least before it starts to show some signs of life in the spring and should I prune it or give a year. Apparently it should fruit this year.
    Thanks

I would plant it as soon as possible, now is the best time for this.

Make sure you know the rootstock the tree is grafted on before planting it in a container - so that you can make sure the container is the correct size.

The supplier should be able to advise on what pruning is required.

Which is the most proper season for planting apple tree? There are as many advices as many people I ask. Can I get the proper one here?

        It depends.

Have you bought your plant in a container? If so - any time of the year. However, if you plant it mid-summer, then you'll have to give it plenty of water (a weekly drenching) especially if the weather is hot to keep it happy and to help it settle in.

Has your plant been delivered without a container, with its roots showing (this is known as 'bare root')? If so - during the winter months - usually from November to February.

I've noticed you live in the US so any advice from here is usually UK based.
          Location....East Midlands.

get the plant into the ground now,as long as its not icy, keep it well watered for the first summer, after which it will be independant, then you can just enjoy the fruit...

For the USA, the best planting time for fruit trees is spring. If you are in zones 9 or 10 (e.g. Southern California, parts of Texas, and the south eastern states) then fall planting is also possible. Because of the hot continental summers experienced in most parts of the US (outside PNW and the north east coast) planting over the summer (even if pot-grown) is not a great idea - but if you have to do it, then I agree with garden_chris' advice.

What do you mean veggiechicken? I can't see an advert in this thread. Or am I missing something? Who has been banned?
