Okay, the greenhouse for starters. I'll plant it in a big tub tomorrow, then untie the branches and run for cover I feel a major GH reorganisation coming on.......... And if it all goes peach-shaped it'll be your fault
Change of plan Even in the centre of the GH, the peach is too tall and cutting it back would mean losing too many side branches - and they are not flexible enough to train horizontally. Outdoors it will have to be - maybe tomorrow
You'll have to fan train the branches with canes first then lower them gradually till they are horizontal.

Oh no! Don't say that How can I tell the difference when all I have is a load of twigs on a stem? Maybe the Greengage that I bought is a peach - its a lot shorter

Just look at the bark and growth habit. The bark of mine has a reddish hue and it is unlike any other trees I have seen (nothing like any cherries, apples, pears or plums). They go a reddy brown colour as they age judging by pictures on the internet.
When the leaves come out they should be narrow and long, almost like some sorts of willow (I've germinated peach seeds and seen this).
Blossom should be pink.
I have an apricot, cherry, pear, plum, apple already. I'll compare barks tomorrow
If its not a peach then I don't have to worry so much about where I plant it
Hope you're right Marcher!! There were only 2 peaches left though and they were completely different in size I didn't even see any apricots as I would have bought one.Time will tell
Yes I do have a wall - 4 actually!! Its called a house Its no good for planting against though! Wherever it goes it will have to be freestanding - all the boundaries are hedges and fences. I never thought I would put so much effort into finding a place for e £4 tree Think I'll just shove it in a hole and let it get on with it

Make a giant cloche, one of those cheap tent greenhouse things should do.
