Victoria plum tree stem has blister growth

Some of the small stems have strange blister like growths on them.
If I had to describe it, I would say that that it looks like a cluster of small woodlice with clear resin over them, spread along the stem.

I had a quick look for diseases of plum tree on the web.

Any ideas please?

Canker shows itself in a purple/brown stain inside the branch. Our plum trees often produce resin like this on the bark where it has split and the sap leaks out. You often get the same sort of thing on damaged fruit. Before I started to look for Canker I would want to see more symptoms of it than just a few drops of resin.

Aha,

It was not bacterial canker, but, scale insect infestation.
