  • How hardy are strawberry seedlings?

The out of date packet of strawberry seeds (3 years out of date) were sown in January I now have around 50 seedlings that i have just potted on.

Will they be ok to go out into an unheated greenhouse as they have spent the days in the blow away and the nights inside the house?

The packet said that they will be ok to plant out from febuary onward but Idont want to put them out as there only about an inch big so can I put them into the unheated greenhouse up at the allotment or will I kill them off!

I know there hardy as mature plants but seedlings are a whole different ball game to me usually only bought used runners.

If they have been hardened off properly they will be fine.

They will be fine in the cold greenhouse, but don't plant them out until spring is really entrenched. Sounds like they have room to grow yet, anyway.

They take ages to grow initially but when they get going they really romp away. Good germination from an out of date packet too, they are one of the seed types that I've had problems with if not fresh in the past although that has been alpine ones which might be different.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
